If you’re dealing with bloating, irregular bowel habits, gas, discomfort, or skin flare-ups that don’t seem to have a clear explanation, you’ve probably already tried: adjusting your diet, taking a probiotic, cutting out food groups, following advice that worked for someone else.
If your symptoms are still there, that’s not because you haven’t tried hard enough.
It’s usually because there hasn’t been enough specific information to know what’s actually worth focusing on.
Instead of guessing your way through diet changes and supplements, a comprehensive stool test can provide valuable insight into what’s happening in your gut.
Proper interpretation then turns those results into practical information, helping shape a more targeted, personalised plan of action.
Who is this for?
This service tends to be most useful if you recognise some of the following:
- Ongoing digestive symptoms
Gut symptoms that haven’t been fully explained by your GP → bloating, gas, irregular bowel habits, discomfort, IBS.
- Bloodwork or stool test from your GP came back "normal"
But you still don’t feel right
- You've made genuine changes to your diet or lifestyle
Yet you’re not seeing the improvements you’d except
- Recurring skin concerns
Such as acne, that don’t seem to be resolving with topical treatment alone
- You want a clearer, more personalised sense of what to focus on next
Rather than another generic list of foods to avoid
If you’ve already tried the usual approaches without getting the clarity you need, testing can provide more detailed information to help guide your next steps.
Think testing could help you?

This isn’t about starting from scratch.
It’s for people who’ve already put the groundwork in and want more specific information to work from.
What the Microba test looks at
The Microba comprehensive stool test is a whole-genome sequencing test that looks at your gut microbiome in detail, including:
Microbiome Profile
which microbes are present and what are they doing
– The composition and diversity of your gut bacteria
– Microbial imbalances and metabolites
Gut Health Panel
gut function and environment
– Markers of intestinal inflammation and immune activity
– Indicators related to gut barrier function
Pathogen Panel
potentially relevant microorganisms
– Gut infections
– Parasites
The report itself is thorough and genuinely useful data sits inside it.
But on its own, pages and pages of microbiome data isn’t something most people can turn into a clear next step.
That’s where interpretation comes in.

Why the interpretation is the valuable part
You could order a home stool test directly. What you can’t do is have it read in the context of your history, symptoms, diet and goals.
Interpretation isn’t just reading the report to you. It covers:
- Understanding your symptom history, current diet, supplements and relevant medical background before you test, so your results are reviewed against your actual picture, not in isolation
- Identifying which findings in your report are likely to be relevant to you, and which are within a normal range of variation and not worth acting on
- Explaining what the findings may mean in plain English, without jargon
- Helping you understand what might be worth exploring or adjusting next, based on the full picture, rather than a generic protocol applied to everyone with a similar result
- Letter to your GP if further investigation is required
Two people can have very similar reports and need different things from them,
depending on their history and symptoms.
That’s the part testing alone can’t do.
How the process works
Your results consultation
This is a conversation, not a data dump.
We’ll go through the findings that are actually relevant to your situation. You’ll understand what your results are showing, what may be worth paying attention to, and what a sensible next step might look like.
You won’t leave with a list of forty products to buy. Where something may be worth exploring further, like a dietary adjustment, or a specific area to focus on, or something to discuss further with your GP, we’ll talk about why, and you’ll have space to ask questions.

The Microba stool test might not be for you if:
- You have new or concerning symptoms, particularly red-flag symptoms such as rectal bleeding, blood in your stool, persistent or severe abdominal pain, unexplained weight loss, or a significant change in your bowel habits. Speak to your GP first.
- If you’re looking for a test that will provide a diagnosis. Stool testing isn’t diagnostic, and results are about digestive and microbiome function.
- If you’re hoping for a definitive single explanation for your symptoms. Gut symptoms are rarely down to one isolated factor.
FAQs
Your questions answered
Microba’s stool tests can only be purchased through registered healthcare practitioners.
You can order some stool tests independently, but without interpretation you’re left holding a detailed report with no context for what, if anything, is relevant to you. The consultation is what turns the data into something usable.
Yes. Once we’ve had your pre-test consultation, your kit is posted to you and you complete the sample collection at home, in your own time and privacy, then post it back for processing.
Stool testing isn’t diagnostic and can’t identify a definitive cause. What it can do is offer additional insight and help put your symptoms into context alongside everything else we discuss, which can help inform next steps.
If anything needs further investigation I will refer you to your GP. If needed, I can write a letter to your healthcare provider.
Not necessarily. This depends on your symptoms and health history. If there are signs that further medical investigation is needed, I will recommend that you speak with your GP before proceeding with functional testing.
A stool test kit is usually dispatched within 48 hours after processing the order.
Once the lab receives your sample, the turnaround time is approximately 4 weeks.
Potentially, but this depends on the medication, supplement and test being used.
For example, if you’ve recently taken antibiotics or antimicrobial medication, you’ll generally need to wait at least 4 weeks after finishing them before providing your sample. Alcohol, ibuprofen and aspirin may also need to be avoided for at least 2 days before testing, where medically appropriate.
I’ll go through any relevant medication, supplements and test preparation requirements with you before you proceed, so you know exactly what’s needed.
After the results consultation you’ll be sent your personalised report. You can read through it at your own pace. If you have questions, you can email or WhatsApp me.
From there you have the option to book a nutritional therapy package. Or you can book an additional 30 minute consultation for £75.
GP stool tests provide important information and may be used to investigate or rule out certain medical conditions such as gut infection, inflammatory bowel disease, bowel cancer, polyps and pancreatic exocrine insufficiency.
A comprehensive stool test looks at different markers and can provide additional information about the gut microbiome and other aspects of gut function that are not measured in standard stool tests.
No. Generally my main focus is food and lifestyle. If supplements are recommended, we’ll talk through why, and any suggestions will be specific to you rather than a standard protocol.
Where possible, supplement discounts will be offered.
