Iced Berry Green Tea

The Benefits of Collagen

Well my friend, collagen is the most abundant protein in your body, it makes up your connective tissue, ligaments, tendons, muscles, bones, and skin.

Collagen is also great for gut health. It can help heal, seal, and strengthen your gut, making it a great supplement for those of us with leaky gut.

Collagen is rich in amino acids, including glutamine which your body naturally utilises to repair your intestinal cells, it also helps soothe inflammation and reduce spasms.

Typically, the best collagen for gut health is animal based but the guys at Raw Beauty Lab have included the prebiotic fibre inulin to support your gut health. Prebiotics help feed good gut bacteria, encouraging them to flourish and fend off unwanted pathogens.

Note: if you have IBS inulin may trigger gas related symptoms as inulin is an oligosaccharide (the O in FODMAP). Read more about IBS and fibre over on Monash.

Can Collagen Be Vegan?

Whilst collagen is often found in animal sources like beef, chicken, fish and eggs, there are plant sources like raspberries, strawberries, sunflower seeds, camu camu and baobab (all of which are in Raw Beauty Lab’s vegan collagen powder) that have been scientifically proven to boost and support your collagen production.

Iced tea with berries and green tea

Ingredients

  • 3 ginger tea bags
  • 1 litre boiled water
  • 1 heaped teaspoon Vegan Collagen
  • Small handful raspberries (fresh or frozen) + a few extra for serving
  • Small handful blueberries (fresh or frozen)
  • Few sprigs rosemary/ mint/ basil
  • Herb and berry infused ice cubes + extra ice for crushing
  • 1-2 teaspoons of liquid sweetener if desired

Method

  1. Make the herb and berry infused ice by placing a raspberry, a couple of blueberries, or a sprig of rosemary / mint / basil into an ice tray. Fill the ice tray with water and freeze for at least 4 hours, ideally overnight.
  2. Add the ginger green teabags to a jug and pour in the boiled water. Brew for 15 minutes.
  3. Allow the tea to cool before adding vegan collagen powder, berries and herbs. Add sweetener if desired. Give it a little stir before transferring to the fridge and allowing to infuse for at least an hour.
  4. To serve crush a few raspberries in a bowl with the back of fork and add to the bottom of the glasses with some crushed ice.
  5. Pour the iced tea into the glasses and add the herb and berry infused iced cubes.
  6. Garnish with orange peel or an orange / lemon wedge and enjoy.
